Coach's Corner - Positive Self-Talk

The most important thing about swimming, other than your actual swimming, is your mental attitude. However, in some cases your mental attitude can be even more important than your actual swimming. Your mental attitude can affect your practice, the outcome of your races, your technique, your racing strategy, your general ability to swim well, and even your friends and teammates’ attitudes and races. This is why it is very important that all swimmers on Storm try to have a good positive mental attitude.

Having a positive mental attitude starts with what you say when you talk to yourself, your self-talk. This is what you are saying or telling yourself in your head at practice, at swim meets, and everywhere else. Having positive self-talk will help all swimmers swim better by pushing negative thoughts out of your head, and having a positive mental outlook on swimming.
