MEET REWIND - 2012 February Challenge
On February 4th-5th Storm Aquatics competed in the February Challenge at Kamiak High School Pool in Mukilteo, Washington.  44 swimmers competed in the meet.

Two swimmers competed in their first meet: Morgan B and Lizzie M.  We had 11 swimmers achieve 100% best times: Morgan B, James C, Maddie D, Grace E, Jonathan F, Meggy H, Lizzie M, Riley P, Cameron S, Kristina S, and Carter W.  Overall Storm swimmer achieved 62% best times!

Miles S broke the 11-12 Year Old Boys Storm record in the 100 Fly with a time of 1:13.81.  Kohl L broke the 8 & Under Boys Storm record in the 50 Breast with a time of 48.75 seconds.

The biggest time drop of the meet was by Natalie P, who dropped 51.01 seconds in her 500 Free.  Other notable time drops were: James C (7) dropped 21.45 seconds in the 25 Backstroke, Jonathan F (14) dropped 15.96 seconds in the 200 Free and 25.80 seconds in the 400 I.M., Cecilia G (12) dropped 21.74 seconds in the 200 Free, Julia H (12) dropped 22.03 seconds in the 500 Free, Alyssa H (13) dropped 15.23 seconds in the 500 Free, Rylee J (12) dropped 18.57 seconds in the 200 IM, Jade L (11) dropped 29.80 seconds in the 100 Back, Kohl L (8) dropped 17.15 seconds in the 50 Back, Kurt L (10) dropped 43.09 seconds in the 100 Fly, Madelyn P (11) dropped 21.56 seconds in the 50 Fly, Natalie P (12) dropped 29.58 seconds in the 200 Fly in addition to her drop in the 500 Free, Jaxon R (10) dropped 16.35 seconds in the 100 Fly, Kristina S (16) dropped 22.12 seconds in the 200 Free, Kyle S (13) dropped 26.72 seconds in the 500 Free, Jeyda T (13) dropped 21.25 seconds in the 200 Fly.

MEET REWIND - 2012 January Challenge
On January 14th -15th Storm Aquatics competed in the January Challenge at Juanita High School Pool in Kirkland, Washington.  34 swimmers made it through the snow to compete in the meet.  

We had 11 swimmers achieve 100% best times: Grace E, Jonathan F, Julia H, Nick I, Rylee J, Jade L, Kurt L, Anna S, Kyle S, Jailine V, and Chloe V.  Overall Storm swimmer achieved 71% best times!  Storm placed second as a team in this meet.  

The biggest time drop of the meet was by Megan P, who dropped 62.22 seconds in her 500 Free.  Other notable time drops were:

Emma C dropping 12.30 seconds in the 100 Back; Cecilia G dropping 11.24 seconds in the 100 Breast; Julia H dropping 16.38 seconds in the 200 Free; Rylee J dropping 19.63 seconds in the 200 Free; Jade L dropping 12.11 seconds in the 200 IM; Sunielove M dropping 28.18 seconds in the 200 Free and 37.99 seconds in the 500 Free; Chris P dropping 23.69 seconds in the 400 IM, 11.51 seconds in the 200 Fly, and 22.25 seconds in the 200 Breast; Jake R dropping 11.61 seconds in the 200 Fly; Miles S dropping 11.21 seconds in the 500 Free; Anna S dropping 50.59 seconds in the 200 Free; Cassie S dropping 16.34 seconds in the 100 Back; Izel T dropping 19.45 seconds in the 500 Free; Jeyda T dropping 11.69 seconds in the 500 Free; Chloe V dropping 39.27 seconds in the 100 Breast; McKenna W dropping 16.20 seconds in the 400 IM.

Storm swimmers did a great job at this meet!

 

MEET REWIND - 2011 Championship Meets Review
This is the Championship Meet Review Special!  Over the first three weekends in December, Storm Aquatics participated in THREE Championship Meets.



Divisional Champs

The first of the Championship meets was Divisional Championships on December 3rd and 4th held at Hazen High School in Renton, Washington.  Swimmers 13 years old and older competed in events in the morning and the top 12 swimmers got to come back and compete in the events again that night in Finals.  Swimmers 12 years old and younger competed in a pentathlon (5 events) and then were ranked based on their added up time.

Our swimmers did great at this meet!  The highlights from the 13 & Over swimmers were by Felicity S, Kyle S, and Chris P.  All 3 swimmers made finals in all of their events.  Kyle placed 9th in the 200 Free, 7th in the 50 Free, and 4th in the 100 Back.  Chris got 100% best time and placed 7th in the 200 IM and the 100 Free, and he placed 1st in the 200 Back!  Felicity placed 5th in the 200 IM, 3rd in the 100 Back and 200 Breast, 2nd in the 100 Fly, and she got 1st in both the 200 Fly and the 50 Free.

There were many highlights from the 12 & Under swimmers as well.  Maddie D, Julia H, Cassie S, and Chloe V all got 100% best times!  Chloe V had the biggest time drops of the weekend dropping 19.8 seconds in the 100 IM and dropping 14.5 seconds in the 50 Breaststroke.  Jade L placed 2nd in the 50 Breaststroke and 4th in the 50 Back and placed in the Top 6 in the 11 Year Old Girls Pentathlon.  Jaxon R also placed in the Top 6 in the 10 Year Old Boys Pentathlon.  Rylee J placed 6th in the 50 Free.



14 & Under PNS

The next championship meet was 14 & Under Pacific Northwest Swimming Championships on December 10th and 11th held at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.  To be able to swim in this meet, swimmers 14 years old and younger had to make qualifying times at previous meets.  Storm had 7 swimmers compete in individual events, and 1 relay for a total of 9 swimmers. This is the most swimmers Storm has ever had compete at this meet.

Overall Storm got 75% best times.  Kyle S got 100% best times.

Individually, we had three swimmers place in the top 16 earning points for Storm.  Kurt L placed 16th in the 200 IM and 13th in the 50 Breast.  Miles S made finals in the 50 and 100 Backstrokes.  In the 50 Backstroke he placed 14th and in the 100 Backstroke he placed 15th and re-broke his record.  McKenna W made finals in the 50, 100, and 200 Breaststroke and the 100 IM.  In the 100 IM she placed 13th.  In the 200 Breaststroke she placed 9th.  In the 50 and 100 Breaststrokes, McKenna placed 5th and broke the 11-12 year old girls Storm records for both events.

Our 11-12 year old girls 200 Free Relay composed of Natalie P, McKenna W, Sunielove M, and Rylee J did really well and placed 17th.



WA State Senior Champs

The final championship meet of the year was Washington State Senior Championships held December 15th through 18th.  This meet has challenging qualifying time standards and any swimmer in Washington State that gets the qualifying time can compete at this meet.  Storm had two swimmers compete at this meet: Alyssa H and Brittany T.

Alyssa H did a great job competing in 4 events, getting best times in 3 of them.  In the 100 Breaststroke, she broke the 13-14 Year Old Girls Storm Record.  Brittany also did well.  She made finals in the 100 and 200 Breaststroke scoring points for Storm.  She also dropped time and broke the 15 & Over Girls Storm Record in the 200 Backstroke.

MEET REWIND - 2011 November Age Group Invitational
On November 19th - 20th, Storm Aquatics competed at the 2011 November Age Group Invitational. 16 Storm swimmers swam in this meet.

We had 7 swimmers achieve 100% best times: Nathaniel G, Alyssa H, Rylee J, Jade L, Kurt L, Jaxon R, and Alana S.  Overall, Storm swimmers achieved 66% best times. The biggest time drops of the meet were by Kurt L, who dropped 37.61 seconds in his 200 I.M. and 16.76 seconds in his 100 Backstroke.

We had 4 swimmers make new PNS times at this meet.  McKenna W made 12 Year Old Girls PNS in the 200 IM and 13 Year Old PNS in the 200 Breaststroke.  Kurt L made 10 Year Old Boys PNS in the 200 IM and the 50 Breaststroke.  Jeyda T made 12 Year Old Girls PNS in the 100 Breaststroke. Alyssa H made Washington State Senior Champs (Senior PNS) in the 200 Butterfly.

The 11-12 Year Old Girls Free Relay of Natalie P, McKenna W, Sunielove M, and Rylee J made PNS!  This will be our first 11-12 Year Old Relay at PNS. There were 2 records broken at this meet, both by Miles S. He broke his own 11-12 Year Old Boys 100 IM record with a time of 1:10.97.  He also broke the 11-12 Year Old Boys record in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:10.29.

This was a very exciting and successful meet for Storm.  Great job Storm Swimmers!

 

MEET REWIND - November Distance Meet
On Sunday, November 13th, Storm hosted our 2nd annual November Distance Meet.  This meet was open to swimmers in our upper groups.  We had 15 swimmers compete at this meet swimming either the 1,000 Free or the 1,650 Free, this was the most swimmers we have had compete in a November Distance Meet.  The average time drop for Storm swimmers was 65 seconds!  The biggest time drop of the meet was by McKenna W.  She dropped 118.41 seconds (1 minute and 58.41 seconds) in the 1,650 Free.  Storm swimmers dropped a total of 10 minutes and 55.94 seconds. 

Overall Storm got 93% best times at this meet.

All Storm swimmers did a great job competing and cheering on their teammates at these meets.  Go Storm!.

 

MEET REWIND - 2011 Chinook Pentathlon
On November 7th, Storm Aquatics sent 38 swimmers to the Chinook Pentathlon at Hazen High School in Renton.

In a pentathlon, each swimmer swims 5 events. For swimmers 8 and under, each swimmer swims a 25 yd Backstroke, 25 yd Breaststroke, 25 yd Butterfly, 25 yd Freestyle, and 100 IM. Swimmers 9-11 swim a 50 yd Backstroke, 50 yd Breaststroke, 50 yd Butterfly, 50 yd Freestyle, and 100 IM. Swimmers 13 and over swim a 100 yd Backstroke, 100 yd Breaststroke, 100 yd Butterfly, 100 yd Freestyle, and 200 IM.

The swimmers in each age group are ranked according to the combined scores from all five events in their age group. The winners of the Pentathlon awards are determined by the highest combined score. Storm Aquatics had 5 award winners. Jade L won 5th place in the Girls 11 division, Miles S won 2nd place in the Boys 12 division, McKenna W won 2nd place in the Girls 12 division, Kyle S won 6th place in the Boys 13 division, and Alyssa H won 1st in the Girls 13 division.


Storm swimmers did a great job at this meet!  There was lots of cheering and team spirit.  Congratulations to our trophy winners!

 

MEET REWIND - 2011 October Challenge
On October 15th -16th Storm Aquatics competed in our first swim meet against other teams in the 2011-2012 season.  38 Storm swimmers swam in this meet.

We had 8 swimmers achieve 100% best times: Parker B, Julia H, Alana S, Cassie S, Jeyda T, Carter W, Payton W, and McKenna W.  Trevor R competed in his first meet.

The biggest time drops of the meet were by Jake R, who dropped 42.26 seconds in his 400 I.M. and 29.03 seconds in his 500 Free.  Alyssa H and Jake R both broke the minute in the 100 Free for the first time.

We had five swimmers make PNS times at this meet.  Alyssa H made 13 year old girls’ PNS in the 400 I.M. and the 100 Free.  Natalie P made 12 year old girls’ PNS in the 50 Free and the 50 Fly, it was her first time ever qualifying for PNS.  Kyle S made 13 year old boys’ PNS in the 400 I.M.  Jeyda T made 12 year old girls’ PNS in the 200 Breast, the 200 Back, and the 400 I.M.  McKenna W made 12 year old girls’ PNS in the 200 Breast and the 200 Back.

Storm swimmers did a great job at this meet!  There was lots of cheering and team spirit.  Let’s keep this team spirit and great swimming going for the Chinook Pentathlon!

 

MEET REWIND - 3rd Annual Intra-Squad Meet
On September 30th Storm Aquatics hosted our first swim meet of the 2011-2012 season, the Storm Aquatics’ 3rd Annual Fall Intra-Squad Meet.  There were 56 swimmers that swam in this meet (89% of our team).  Storm swimmers got 62% best times.

We had 13 swimmers achieve 100% best times: Maddie D, Alex F, Jonathan F, Ben H, Alyssa H, Jake J, Amanda P, Natalie P, Jake R, Alana S, Cameron S, Kyle S, and Jay V. Thirteen swimmers swam in their first meet: Maddie D, Alex F, Ben H, Jay V, Grace E, Meggy H, Jaxon R, James C, Cheyenne K, Mari L, Carter W, Payton W, and Alyssa P. The biggest drop of the meet was by Julia H, who dropped 42.16 seconds in her 200 I.M. 

We had four swimmers make qualifying times at this meet.  Jake R qualified for PNS in the 50 Free.  Alyssa H qualified for PNS in the 100 Fly and she qualified for both PNS and Senior PNS in the 100 Breaststroke.  Miles S qualified for PNS in the 100 Back and the 100 I.M.  McKenna W qualified for PNS in the 100 Back, 100 Breast, and 100 I.M.

All the swimmers did a great job at this meet.  It was exciting to see so many first meets, fast swims, and team spirit! Thank you to all of the parents and swimmers who volunteered and helped make this meet a huge success.

 

MEET REWIND -  Summer Championship Meets
During the end of July through the beginning of August, Storm participated in three Championship swim meets.

The Summer Grand Challenge at Titlow Pool in Tacoma was for all swimmers who were not swimming at the PNS Championship Meet. There were 15 swimmers who competed at this meet. Four swimmers got 100% best times: Cecilia G, Mike H, Melia M, and Jacob R. The biggest time drop of the weekend was by Kyle S who dropped 36 seconds in the 400 IM.  Alyssa H won the Girls 13 & Over 1,500 Free and Jeyda T won both the Girls 11-12 200 Fly and 200 Breast.

Three Storm swimmers competed at the Long Course PNS Championship Swim Meet. Alyssa H competed in four events (50 Free, 100 Breaststroke, 200 Breaststroke, and 400 IM). In the 100 Breaststroke she dropped nearly 3 seconds, moved up 10 spots in the standings, and qualified for the 2011 Short Course PNS Championship Meet in both the 13 Year Old Girls and 14 Year Old Girls age groups (she will only be 13). Brittany T competed in the 100 and 200 Breaststroke. In the 100 Breaststroke she made finals and placed 14th scoring 3 points for Storm. McKenna W swam in the 50, 100, and 200 Breaststroke.  She made finals in all three events and dropped time in all three events.  McKenna placed 7th in the 50 (scoring 12 points), 12th in the 100 (scoring 5 points), and 16th in the 200 (scoring 1 point).

Finally, Storm competed in the 2011 North Cascades Summer Swim League Championship Swim Meet. Storm brought a team of 37 swimmers to this meet. Nine swimmers got 100% best times: Malia C, Tai C, Julia H, Nick I, Dashiel K, Sunielove M, Megan P, Natalie P, and Bennett S. This was four swimmers’ first meet: Malia C, Tai C, Jonah S, and Corsen S. Dashiel K had the biggest time drop of the meet for Storm dropping 15 seconds in the 25 yard Free. Kohl L was the high point winner for Storm scoring a total of 38 points, not including relays.

All three of these meets made up a great end of the 2010-2011 Swim Season. Storm hopes to see all of our swimmers from the regular season and from Summer League back in the fall.

 

MEET REWIND -  Tri-City Invitational
From Friday, June 3rd through Sunday, June 5th Storm Aquatics traveled to Pasco, Washington to attend the 2011 Tri-City Invitational.  This meet is a Long Course Meters meet, the pool is 50 meters, the same length as the pool in the Olympics.

Storm had a total of 31 swimmers compete in this meet getting 70% best times. Eleven Storm swimmers got 100% best times: Emma C, Cecilia G, Julia H, Melia M, Amanda P, Megan P, Juleah P, Bo S, Alana S, David T (our Head Coach), and Kevin W. The biggest improvement of the weekend was by Charlotte S who dropped 1 minute and 48.47 seconds in her 100 Free.  As a team, Storm swimmers dropped a total of 16 minutes and 6.55 seconds.

There were 5 swimmers competing in their first Long Course Meters meet: Bo S, Anna S, Charissa S, Cassie S, and Chloe V.

The meet was a lot of fun with some families camping at the pool and some families staying at a nearby hotel. Everyone enjoyed the warmer eastern Washington weather at this outdoor 50 meter pool.

 

MEET REWIND -  Pacific Coast Invitational
From Friday, May 20th through Sunday, May 22nd, Storm Aquatics competed in the 2011 Pacific Coast Invitational swim meet in Federal Way, WA. To compete in this meet, swimmers had to qualify.

Storm had a total of 11 swimmers compete in this meet getting 71% best times.  Two Storm swimmers got 100% best times:  Nathaniel G and Chris P. The biggest improvement of the weekend was by Nathaniel G who dropped 58 seconds in his 800 Free. As a team, Storm swimmers dropped a total of 7 minutes and 21.45 seconds (an average of about 40 seconds per swimmer).

 

MEET REWIND -  Long Course Kickoff
From April 29th through May 1st, 22 swimmers from Storm Aquatic’s Senior, Blue, Red, and White groups participated in the Long Course Kickoff at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, WA.  This was the first long course meters meet of the year where the pool is 50 meters instead of 25 yards (this is the size pool the Olympics are swum in).

Our swimmers did an amazing job dropping tons of time and getting 90% best times!  As a team, we dropped a total of 10 minutes and 49.87 seconds.  The biggest time drop of the weekend was by Megan P who dropped 54 seconds in her 400 Free, Megan also had the second largest time drop of the weekend in her 200 Free where she dropped 28 seconds.  There were 17 swimmers that achieved all best times: Kiersten C, Alyssa H, Rylee J, Emma K, Jade L, Kohl L, Kurt L, Melia M, Amanda P, Chris P, Megan P, Natalie P, Jacob R, Kyles S, Jeyda T, Kevin W, and McKenna W.  This was a great start to the Long Course season that will last through the end of the summer.

 

MEET REWIND -  Painterman Invitational
On April 16th and 17th, Storm sent 16 swimmers to the Painterman Invitational and Colorful Relays, a fun meet hosted by the Marysville Marlins. Storm really came to swim, compiling a total of 71% best times in the pool. Of that 71%, four swimmers achieved 100% best times: Bo S., Rebekah S., Charissa S., and Charlotte S. Not only did we have a lot of time drops, we also had some big ones. Chloe V. dropped 15.58 seconds in her 100 I.M., Cassie S. dropped 9.25 seconds in her 50 backstroke, and Anna S. and Cecilia G. both dropped almost 10 seconds in their 100 freestyles.

The Painterman Invitational is a unique meet, where each swimmer is able to swim 6 individual events, and awards are given for heat winners and the best combined times in those 6 events in each age group. 14 swimmers walked away with customized paint sticks for winning heats, and Caleb D. walked away with a medal for 6th place overall in the 11 year-old boys age group - congratulations and way to bring home the hardware!

Lastly, swimmers were given the opportunity to swim in some fun and different relays. The “Colorful Relays” portion of the meet brought 4x100 I.M. relays, where each swimmer swims a complete 100 I.M., and even a 200 backstroke relay where each swimmer has to dive in and roll over - just don’t let the coaches see you do it in practice!

 

MEET REWIND -  Spring Divisional Champs
On Saturday and Sunday, March 26th and 27th, Storm Aquatics sent 28 swimmers to the Divisional Championship Meet at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, WA.  At this meet, 4 swimmers got 100% best times: Cecilia G., Nathaniel G., Kohl L., and Amanda P.  Cassie S. participated in her first meet.

Swimmers 12 years old and younger competed in a Pentathlon – 5 events (one event of each stroke and a 100 IM, except swimmers 8 and under who instead swam a 50 Free).  Out of 1,100 swimmers, Storm had 3 swimmers place in the Top 30 in their age group: Chris P. (12 Year Old Boys), Kohl L. (8 & Under Boys), and Kurt L. who was Storm’s top placer, placing 8th (9 Year Old Boys).

Swimmers 13 years old and older swam events each morning, trying to qualify to swim in finals (Top 24) in the afternoon.  Out of over 550 swimmers, Felicity S. qualified for finals in 4 events and did a great job representing Storm during finals.  Nathaniel G. broke the one minute in the 100 Free for the first time.  The biggest time drop of the weekend came from Jonathan F. who dropped 10 seconds in the 100 Breaststroke.

 

MEET REWIND -  Senior Sectionals / Age Group Regionals
From Thursday, March 10th through Sunday March 13th, Storm Aquatics sent 1 swimmer to the Speedo Championship Series Western Region Short Course Sectionals (Senior Sectionals) and from Friday, March 18th through Sunday, March 20th, Storm had 2 swimmers compete at the NW Region Short Course Age Group Regionals swim meet (Age Group Regionals).  Both meets were held at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, WA. 

For swimmers to compete in these meets they had to achieve a “Senior Sectionals” or “Age Group Regionals” Time Standard in each event they competed in, some swimmers were eligible to swim a bonus event.  The swimmers who competed were Brittany T at Senior Sectionals and Alyssa H, and McKenna W at Age Group Regionals. 

At Senior Sectionals Brittany was competing against swimmers from about 13 states.  She competed in 4 events, achieving season best times in 3 of her events. 

At Age Group Regionals, Alyssa and McKenna competed against swimmers from about 7 states.  Alyssa swam 3 events and got 100% best times.  In the 12 year old Girls 50 Breaststroke Alyssa placed 16th, in the 12 year old Girls 100 Breaststroke she placed 12th, and in the 12 year old Girls 100 IM she placed 13th.  In the 100 IM Alyssa broke the Storm Aquatics 11-12 year old Girls record with a time of 1:06.65.  McKenna swam in 2 events and also got 100% best times.  In the 100 Breaststroke McKenna made finals and got to swim this event again at night.  She placed 8th scoring Storm a point at this Regional Meet.  In the 50 Breaststroke she placed 11th.

 

MEET REWIND -  Spring Intra-Squad Meet
On March 4th Storm Aquatics hosted the Storm Aquatics’ 2nd Annual Spring Intra-Squad Meet.  There were 42 swimmers that swam in this meet.  Storm swimmers got 68% best times.

We had 13 swimmers achieve 100% best times: Jonathan F, Riley G, Alyssa H, Rylee J, Holly K, Jade L, Kurt L, Sunielove M, Becca R, Anna S, Cameron S, Kristina S, and McKenna W.  One swimmer swam in her first meet: Paige T. The biggest drop of the meet was by Anna S, who dropped 45.53 seconds in her 100 Butterfly.  Two swimmers qualified for additional events at the Age Group Regional Meet, Alyssa H in the 100 I.M. and McKenna W in the 100 Breaststroke. Alyssa H also broke the Storm Aquatics 11-12 Year Old Girls 100 I.M. record with a time of 1:07.64.

MEET REWIND -  February AG Invitational
On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, February 25th through 27th, Storm Aquatics sent 15 swimmers to the February Age Group Invitational Meet at Kamiak High School.  Swimmers had to have a Gold Time in each event to compete in this meet.

Of the 15 swimmers attending this meet, 8 swimmers got 100% best times: Nathaniel G, Rylee J, Jade L, Kurt L, Natalie P, Jacob R, Brittany T, and McKenna W.  As a team, Storm had 66% best times.  Storm had 10 swimmers place in the top 12 in at least one event.  Swimmers 11-14 years old swam in preliminary heats in the morning to try to qualify to return for finals at night.  We had 5 swimmers qualify to swim in finals: Natalie P (1 final), McKenna W (3 finals), Alyssa H (6 finals), Kyle S (4 finals), and Felicity S (3 finals).

McKenna W qualified, for her first time, to swim at Age Group Regionals in the 50 Breaststroke!  Alyssa H qualified in her second event for Age Group Regionals in the 100 Breaststroke.  The biggest time drop of the weekend was by Kurt L in the 100 Breaststroke.  He dropped 9.46 seconds.

MEET REWIND -  Distance Meet
On Sunday, February 20th, Storm Aquatics hosted a Distance Meet at the Lake Stevens High School Pool. There were 13 Storm Swimmers that got up early to be at the pool before 7:00am to have the chance to swim “The Mile” – 1,650 yards of Freestyle or the 1,000 Free.  There were a total of 66 swimmers who attended our meet from teams throughout the Pacific Northwest.

There were 9 Storm swimmers who competed in the 1,000 Free.  Nathaniel G dropped 1 minute and 27 seconds in this event.  The other 8 swimmers were competing in the 1,000 for the first time.

There were 4 Storm swimmers who competed in The Mile.  Natalie P dropped 36 seconds and Jacob R dropped 43 seconds!  The other 2 swimmers, Julia H and Gabby P competed in The Mile for the first time. 

As a team, Storm got 100% best times.

MEET REWIND -  February Challenge
On Saturday and Sunday, February 5th and 6th, Storm Aquatics sent 36 swimmers to the February Challenge at the Fidalgo Pool & Fitness Center in Anacortes, WA.  We had great attendance at this meet even though it was Super Bowl Weekend.  All Storm swimmers did a great job at this meet.

Of the 36 swimmers attending this meet, 9 swimmers got 100% best times: Holly K, Kohl L, Kelia M, Mackenzie M, Sirianna M, Natalie P, Charissa S, Kevin W, and Coach David.  As a team, Storm had 63% best times!  Two Storm swimmers competed in their first swim meet: Mackenzie M and Sirianna M.

The biggest time drop of the weekend was by McKenna W who dropped 45.52 seconds in the 500 Free.  Congratulations also to the following swimmers who placed in the top ten at the meet in all of their events:  Nathaniel G, Alyssa H, Jade L, Kohl L, Kurt L, Chris P, Felicity S, Kyle S, Izel T, Brittany T, and Coach David

MEET REWIND -  January Challenge
On Saturday and Sunday, January 15th and 16th, Storm Aquatics sent 40 swimmers to the January Challenge at Kamiak High School. All Storm swimmers did a great job at this meet.  Everyone swam fast and together we placed 4th out of 6 local swim teams!

Of the 40 swimmers attending this meet, 9 swimmers got 100% best times: Joey B, Emma C, Kiersten C, Akili F, Julia H, Alyssa H, Jade L, Brooke O, and Coach David. As a team, Storm had 75% best times! Two Storm swimmers competed in their first swim meet: Akili F and Cameron S. There was one Storm Record broken by Brittany T in the 100 Backstroke.  Alyssa H qualified for Age Group Regionals in the 50 Breaststroke.

Storm swimmers did a great job competing in their events and placing high, Nathaniel G won the 15 & over boys 50 Back, Alyssa H won the 11-12 year old girls 50 Breast and the 200 Back, Jacob R won the 13-14 year old boys 50 Back, Kyle S won the 11-12 year old boys 500 Free, Brittany T won the 15 & over girls 100 Back, 100 IM, 50 Back and 50 Fly, and Coach David won the 15 & over boys 100 IM and 50 Fly.

Food Drive a HUGE Success

In an effort to give back to the community during the holiday season, Storm Aquatics organized and participated in a food drive event. Storm Aquatics swimmers and friends collected 505 lbs of food and received a $100 donation for the local food banks. The food donations were divided between the Lake Stevens and Snohomish food banks. The event culminated in a pool party at the Lake Stevens High School Pool.

MEET REWIND -  PNS Championships
From Friday, December 10th through Sunday December 12th, Storm Aquatics sent 5 swimmers to the 14 & Under Pacific Northwest Swimming Championships and from Friday, December 17th through Sunday, December 19th, Storm had 1 swimmer compete at the Washington State Senior Championships at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, WA. 

For swimmers to compete in these meets they had to achieve a “PNS” Time Standard in each event they competed in, some swimmers were eligible to swim a bonus event.  The swimmers who competed were Alyssa H, Emma K, Chris P, Kyle S, and McKenna W at 14 & Under PNS Champs and Brittany T at WA State Senior Championships. 

Alyssa swam 6 events and got best times in 4 of these.  In the 50 Breaststroke and the 200 IM, Alyssa qualified to swim in Finals (she placed 12th in the 50 Breast and 14th in the 200 IM) and scored 8 points for Storm.  Emma swam in 2 events.  In the 100 Breaststroke, Emma got a best time and broke the Storm Aquatics 9-10 Year Old Girls 100 Breaststroke Record.  Chris competed in 4 events, got 2 best times, and qualified to swim in Finals in the 200 Butterfly.  Kyle competed in 6 events and got best times in 5 of these events.  Kyle placed 16th in the 400 IM and placed 6th in the 1650 Freestyle (the Mile) and scored 14 points for Storm.  McKenna swam in 6 events and got best times in 5 of the events and she was only 0.05 seconds off of achieving 100% best times.

MEET REWIND -  Divisional Championships
On Saturday and Sunday, December 4th and 5th, Storm Aquatics sent 25 swimmers to the Divisional Championship Meet at Rogers High School in Puyallup, WA. 

Of the 25 swimmers attending this meet, 5 swimmers got 100% best times: Eli H., Kohl L., Kurt L., Juleah P., and Becca R.  As a team, Storm had 65% best times. 

Swimmers who were 12 years old and younger competed against swimmers who are the same age in a Pentathlon – 5 events (one event of each stroke and a 100 IM, except swimmers 8 and under who instead swam a 50 Free).  Storm had 4 swimmers place in the Top 6 in their age group: Gabby P., Sunielove M., Kurt L., and Jeyda T. 

Swimmers, who were 13 years old and older, swam events each morning and tried to qualify to swim in finals (Top 12) in the afternoon.  The Top 6 swimmers were awarded metals and swimmers placing 7th-12th were awarded ribbons.  Storm had 4 swimmers qualify to compete in finals: Nathaniel G., Jacob R., Felicity S., and Izel T.  Nathaniel G. earned 2 medals, Jacob R. earned 3 medals, and Felicity S. earned 6 medals, and won the girls 100 Free with a best time of 58.47 seconds. 

The biggest time drop of the weekend came from Izel T. who dropped 51.05 seconds in the 200 Backstroke.

MEET REWIND -  Age Group Invitational and Distance Meet
On Saturday and Sunday, November 20th and 21st, Storm Aquatics sent 18 swimmers to the November Age Group Invitational Meet at Kamiak High School.  For swimmers to compete in this meet, they had to have a Gold Time in each event.

Of the 18 swimmers attending this meet, 8 swimmers got 100% best times: Nathaniel G, Alyssa H, Rylee J, Emma K, Jade L, Natalie P, Jacob R, and McKenna W.  As a team, Storm had 70% best times.  This meet was also the last time for swimmers to qualify for the Championship Meet in December (PNS Champs).  During the meet, we had 10 new PNS qualifying times and one swimmer, Emma K, qualified for PNS for her first time.  Of these 10 new PNS times, 5 were swum by Alyssa H.

On Sunday, November 14th, Storm Aquatics hosted a Distance Meet at the Lake Stevens High School Pool.  There were 12 Storm Swimmers that got up early to be at the pool before 7:00am to have the chance to swim “The Mile” – 1,650 yards of Freestyle.

There were 8 swimmers who had previously competed in “The Mile”; these swimmers dropped a total of 488.58 seconds (8 minutes and 8.58 seconds)!  There were 4 swimmers who competed in The Mile for the first time and did a great job!  As a team, Storm got 92% best times.

MEET REWIND -  Chinook Pentathlon
On Sunday, November 7, 2010, Storm Aquatics competed in our third swim meet of the season, the Chinook Pentathlon at the Mary Wayte Pool on Mercer Island.  At this meet swimmers competed in one event of each stroke (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle) and an Individual Medley.  For each event, swimmers competed with others in their age group (8&Under, 9 year olds, 10 year olds, 11 year olds, 12 year olds, 13 year olds, and 14&Over) and earned a certain amount of points depending on their time.  At the end of the meet, the scores for each event were added up and the swimmers were ranked.

Storm had 31 swimmers compete at this meet.  There were 8 swimmers who ranked in the Top 10 in their age group: Kurt L., McKenna W., Alyssa H., Kyle S., Chris P., Jacob R., Brittany T., and Felicity S.  Swimmers placing in the Top 6 received a trophy (Kurt, Alyssa, Brittany, and Felicity as pictured above).  As a team, we had 62% best times, and 6 people got 100% best times: Alyssa H., Kurt L., Sunielove M., Jacob R., David T., and McKenna W.  The biggest time drop of the meet was by Amanda P. who dropped 49.53 seconds in the 200 I.M.

All Storm swimmers did a great job competing and cheering on their teammates at this meet.  Go Storm!

 

MEET REWIND -  October Challenge
STORM AQUATICS, the local Lake Stevens swim club, sent 38 swimmers to the 2010 October Challenge on Saturday and Sunday, October 16-17, 2010 in Bellingham.  This was Storm’s first meet of the 2010-2011 season competing against other teams and we placed 3rd!

All Storm Aquatics swimmers did a great job competing and had a really fun time.  Overall the team had 59% best times.  Storm had 3 swimmers swim best times in all of the events they swam: Phoebe P., Joey B., and Coach David.  Three swimmers qualified for PNS Alyssa H. (100 Breast), Kyle S. (200 Back), and Chris P. (200 Fly and 400 I.M.). 

The biggest time drop of the weekend was by Sunielove M. in the 500 Free, she dropped 42.72 seconds.  Congratulations to all of the Storm swimmers who competed at the October Challenge!

 

MEET REWIND -  2nd Annual Fall Intra-Squad Meet
On October 1st Storm Aquatics hosted our first swim meet of the 2010-2011 season, the Storm Aquatics’ 2nd Annual Fall Intra-Squad Meet.  There were 40 swimmers that swam in this meet.  Storm swimmers got 71% best times.  We had 18 swimmers achieve 100% best times.  Five swimmers swam in their first meet: Kaylee M, Bo S, Anna S, Charissa S, and Chloe V.  

The biggest drop of the meet was by Joey Bower, who dropped 42.57 seconds in his 100 Breaststroke.
